A lesson in distraction..

WOW... OK so the last week or so have been kind of busy, and I've been uncharacteristically flighty. I'm usually a very very detail oriented person and am extremely observant and organized.

I guess I decided to make up for 32 years of being OCD in one week. This week. Boy let me tell you, I made up for it with a BANG!

As I'm sure most of you are aware, the IRS has started sending out stimulus payments and there have been announcements that tax payers who received their refund via direct deposit may possibly receive their stimulus earlier than originally planned. The IRS website has posted a schedule for when you can expect to receive your stimulus based on the last 2 digits of your soc.

Last two SSN digits: Payments will be transmitted no later than:
00 through 20 May 2
21 through 75 May 9
76 through 99 May 16

Well last week my cousin heard on the radio that the IRS had released the first two sets of payments early and that the last payment scheduled for direct deposit (the one I fall under) would likely be early as well.

According to the little calculator thing on IRS.gov I'm supposed to be getting $600 back. Taxcut.com also has a calculator on their website & according to that one (I filed my state taxes through them) I'd be getting back $300. I'm hoping the IRS has the more trusted and accurate answer but we'll see. Or so I thought I already had seen

UGH!

I live in a 2br apartment and I rent out the extra room for $375 a month (utilities included). Well my roommate (cousin) gave me her rent on Friday and I deposited it. I spent a dollar on laundry so I actually deposited $374. That was on May 2nd.

Well on Monday, May 5th, I'm looking over my bank account online and get all excited when I see a deposit for $374. I thought hmm that's an odd number but hey it's extra money woohoo!! I have absolutely no idea why it didn't register in my brain that.. um.. hey genuis?? that's the exact amount you deposited on Friday.. palm - forehead.

So I pull out my handy dandy check register and pencil me in another extra $374.. and proceed to spend almost every dollar. I mean I didn't just blow it, I paid my cable bill early, bought groceries, a shirt for work, some new flip flops and a book shelf for the living room.

Imagine my surprise when I look at my bank account online this morning and see that it is....

are you ready for this.....

take a deep breath............

-$437.87

That's right guys and gals.. I have overdrawn my checking account by over $400

Thankfully it's a credit union with overdraft protection and everything got paid.. but I get to pay the bank $100 in overdraft fees (at $25 a pop). So when I really DO get my stimulus pay deposited... well $437.87 of it will be immediately eaten... Oh and now I'm way hella flat broke until my next pay day, which isn't until NEXT FRIDAY.. UGH and double UGH.

Thankfully I'm all stocked up on everything I need and I think I have enough gas to get me through to next week. But good God Almighty did I screw up royally.

I was telling my boss just now what had happened and I'm laughing, just cracking up.. I don't know what else to do. He looks at me and goes... uhh and you're
laughing??

Ahh well, I guess it's a lesson learned.. and now in another 30yrs or so I can expect to have a complete and thorough brain fart.

But until then.. if you feel sorry for my temporary lack of cranial function (please) feel free to donate sympathy funds. I have paypal.. I take... cash, check, ... charge... pop cans... old newspapers that can be recycled for pennies... you get the idea :-)

You can click on my pretty kitty Blanco's picture at the top to donate! He's running low on cat food so I'm sure he will appreciate it as much as I will!!

No fun. Hey, everybody has played the minus game at least once. Luckily you realized quickly what was up and you didn't have to struggle with a calculator for weeks trying to figure out what went wrong!

I do that all the time, well not end up minus (that's only sometimes). But I do like to save, so I take every extra dime I think I'll have and transfer it over to my money account. Of course something comes up and I'm struggling to get everything paid. This is constant.
